Research activities

Bioapplications Ltd has developed collaborations with academic institutes in Greece including the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Democritus University of Thrace and Agricultural University of Athens.

We hold records of field data from over 10 prefectures in Greece. Data comprise digital mapping of sampling areas and adult mosquito population records. We can immediately collect, process and analyse samples (e.g. larval and adult mosquito samples, water samples etc) from anywhere actions for mosquito control are taken.

At Bioapplications Ltd, we have developed protocols for molecular characterization of mosquito species that are known vectors of diseases and their differentiation from their non-vector relatives found in Greece. Specifically, molecular methods are used for characterisation of samples of Aedes albopictus (tiger mosquito) responsible for cases of Dengue Fever and differentiation between Culex pipiens biotypes, vectors of the West Nile Virus.
